NELSON History

From Humble Beginnings to Global Impact

Founded in 1945 by two young engineers and their former Scoutmaster, NELSON began with a simple goal: help meet the engineering needs of a growing nation after World War II.

1945

The Beginning
NELSON’s origins begin with a partnership formed by two young engineers and their former Scoutmaster, combining technical education with seasoned engineering leadership in the post – World War II era.
1956

A New Chapter
The firm is incorporated as Bedell and Nelson, Inc. International work begins with support of start-up mining operations in pre – Castro Cuba.
1961

The NELSON Name Begins
The company is renamed Waldemar S. Nelson and Company, Inc., marking the start of expanded services and continued growth.
1960‘s - 1970’s

Expanding into Architectural Design
NELSON broadens its multidisciplinary approach, expanding beyond mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering to include architectural design.
1980‘s - 1990’s

Specialized Departments Established
Specialized departments are established in process engineering, control systems engineering, environmental science, and engineering and project management.
2000

Houston Office Opens
NELSON opens a Houston, Texas office to support oil and gas, petrochemical, port, and power clients.
