CG Railway relocated its railcar ferry service from Mobile to New Orleans on the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO), where ferries transport more than 100 railcars between New Orleans and Mexico. The new facility provides two levels of rolling access to the berthed ferry and was delivered through a fast-track, multiple-contract approach under public bid laws. NELSON’s scope included geotechnical, topographic, and hydrographic services, construction materials testing and inspection, and the design of the rail connection, embankment, pile-supported structures, ferry ramps, mooring systems, access bridges, operations buildings, and supporting water, fire protection, and electrical systems.
